Follow-up question: Would your opinion change (truthfully) if you yourself or your family would have to live in poverty with poor social security?
The question is hypothetical and I am not US citizen so please do not insult me for your economical situation.

My smoke detector is acting up and I’m going to get a new one(not the battery). I’m hoping to use the same screws. Do any of you know if the hole spacing is the same or is it different with different brands? I am hoping to buy one and pop it on and not have to make any new holes.

(sorry for the caps, I just wanted to catch attention because this is an urgent question).

Recently three apartments in my complex have been broken into, and they were all robbed. So far, nobody has seen the perpetrators.. so they are out free and breaking into homes whenever they catch the opportunity.

I know some people are thinking "Just get a big dog", but I cannot. I am expecting my first child in May and I cannot afford, spend the time on, or find a dog that will be great with an infant and be low maintenance as well as a great guard dog. I looked, but in the end I was not able to find a dog that would be good for my family.

Anyway,

If anyone knows any great wireless alarm systems that do not cost very much (no more than ), are VERY loud, and would be great for doors (mostly the front door).. PLEASE let me know.

Thank you very much.

(ps. no rude or sarcastic comments please. Also, I am not shouting when I use caps.. please do not get offended.)

Would you find yourself also thinking about Timothy McVeigh?

Do you think maybe he knew something we don’t, yet?

I am thinking about going wireless and getting my kid’s and self a laptop…what else do I need to know…I know I need a router…and the laptops need to have wireless capacity….is there more to know?

My friend had an additonal garage built onto the exsisting one. When the inspector came he said he had to update to wired in smoke detectors through out the house. Why? All he wanted was another garage and had not been told if he did that he would have to have the house smoke detectors updated.

but I have no idea who to go with. I tried to do research based on current and former customer reviews but the only conclusion I can come to is that I’m screwed. I was going to go with Vector or Sonitrol but I don’t like the idea of Sonitrol’s silent alarm. All I read about ADT and Brinks was that they make it ridiculously expensive to come out and fix equipment malfunctions, some reviews said the systems did not work, etc. Any help/info will be GREATLY appreciated :-)

Thanks!!!

I need to know the best home video surveillance system at a decent price. Mine and my fiance’s cars were both broken into last night so I’m looking to get a video surveillance system I can monitor the house with … Any suggestions?

I don’t want to get an entire home alarm system as I only have an apartment. The only way to get in is the main front door and 1 window (but that’s so high off the ground that I’m not worried about that).

Is there something you can just attach to your front door so that if someone opens it, then the alarm will go off?

I’m trying to connect my Wireless-G Music to it, and I need the security settings to be the same, but I can’t find them anywhere for the router? Where do I find them?

First and foremost, I want a security system that I can install myself that I don’t have to pay someone to monitor. I want the system to have all of the following features:

Integrated Smoke Alarm
Integrated CO Detector
Glass Break Sensors
Multiple Cameras both inside and out that are accessible via the web
DVR for the cameras with access via TV(s)
Window / Door alarms
A loud siren
Control Panel
Key Fobs
Ability to either email photos or on security breach

Is this too much to ask from a do it yourself system? I am not worried about the cost, but want flexibility in the system that I choose.

It has recently been pumped so it is not that the water level is high. I know that it can be to do with the float or the board giving us a false alarm. Does anyone have any ideas as to how this can be repaired. I have paid so many people 0 - 0 to just come and tell us a simple answer about other household issues!!

there is no cooking going on or any form of smoke in the house, but the smoke detectors beep randomly. Most of the time one or two short beeps.

They are electrically operated, not battery.

This robber comes through balcony by emergency ladder, at around 1:00-3:00(apartment) from the roof. They come because, wife&husbands who live in my apartment both goes to work. I was going to buy lights that turns on when someone comes but they come at the day, if it is night it is easy to notice, but it is hard to know at the day, plus, robberies usually comes when I am away, so those kind of lights doesnt help. So what is good? I dont even want them to come in to my balcony.

I have a DSC PC1555 alarm system. I had to unplug the charger (at least I think it is the charger) for one week. I tried plugging it in and the alarms went off. So, will I have to reset all the settings? OR will I only need to put in my security code?

About a month ago I lost my Visa Check Card at Wal Mart.Someone found it immediately and used it to purchase 2.00 worth of merchandise.I was told to file a police report and the police would go to Wal Mart, look at the video surveillance, then give me a copy of the police report. Then I take the police report to my bank showing I did not make the purchases, and the money would then be added back to my account. But someone told me that Wal Mart only keeps video surveillance for a week.Does anyone have any information on this?I want my money added back to my card.Is there anyway they can catch the person who did this?I would appreciate any information.

I have heard how they are not well trained and will hire almost anyone. Schedulers rarely have jobs (stable posts) for Officers and do LESS work than Human Resources Personnel meaning they pretend to work but are lazy. Sergeants do the work of Lieutenants and Captains without the pay just the responsibilities. That Human Resources Managers and Low-Level Security Officers are under-trained, Under-Employed, Under-Paid with almost no opportunity fro promotion and rarely get a pay-raise even after passing the probationary period. Also get no over-time pay; they begin early and go home late. They equipment is not in the best conditions. People who make money are from Contract/Facility Managers and up the ladder of management.

All companies offer retirement packages for management only and not all managers get a bonus.
Pay raises are almost non-existent.

I am planning to install (Security Camera Wireless) outdoor.
1- Is there something call (UHV).
2- What kind of product should I get that doesn’t be affect with other frequencies (mobile, radio)?

hi,
few days ago while i was sleeping, i heard a few loud chirps at timely intervals but i wasn’t sure where it was coming from. The next night, i had stayed up and heard it again, i realised it was my smoke alarm and realised it was a chirp every 45 seconds for around 4-5 minutes each time. I have googled, asked around and i’ve identified that it might have been the battery, i changed it, the red light on the smoke detector then flashed every 10 seconds, but this gradually slowed down. I also heard another chirp. So i changed the battery again and so far i hvaen’t heard any chirps but the red light is still flashing every minute - what does this mean?
Thanks
i’ve already changed a new lithium 9v battery in it - duracell as well :) so is the red light every 1 minute not normal?

I moved a few years ago. I was renting an apartment and removed the alarm system. Now, three years later the monitoring company claims I did not notify them of the removal and wants to be paid for monitoring per the auto renewal contract provision even though they provided no service. My position is when the system was removed they should have been aware, had they been monitoring per the contract.
