5 people in New York City died after there was a fire and their smoke alarm was disabled.

what can we do to prevent this from happening again?

maybe the people who make them can cause them to make a very annoying sound if they are disabled

ok, I have had my wireless connection set up for a while, I have gone to the 192.168.0.1 and went to the wireless network config page. when the ssid is enabled and the wireless encription key is- not- enabled I can us my wireless on my other computer. but this leaves it open for anyone around my street to access my wireless. BUT when I go and click the box to enable both ssid and wireless security none of the wireless works. ( even the kids psp,ps3 etc)
How do I set this up so that I have full security and have all of my wireless computer/electronics able to connect to internet ( with out having to keep unchecking the -enable- box and leaving out network open to others? I am so confused, and Im betting its something really easy but I am just missing something?
thanks
tried it..doesnt work.

hat can you do with someones social security number? bad things?

also, what can you do to protect yourself from someone doing something to you if they have your social security number?

A guy came over my house offering a home security with no set up fee and equipment for free. Said that it would be free because they would use my house as an advertising home.

WAP, or WEP?? Do I really need any security for my home router??

Thanks

I removed the cover to replace batteries. Now when I put the cover back after replacing batteries, the alarm starts beeping continously. How do I stop it from beeping? It stops beeping when I take off the cover. How do I put the cover back? Thanks!

I have a "safewatch plus" home alarm system by ADT. I do not have it monitored, but it functions properly. I have been able to turn the "chimes" off that sound when opening a door, but it makes a loud BEEP when you enter each code numeral into the panel and wakes my baby boy. Is there any way I can turn the BEEP down or off without paying 5 per hr. for a tech to come to my house and do it?

Would it be easy to relocate panel to another wall if your "handy?"

Because Alaska is close to Russia?
LMAOAPMP - I have to go change now.

I’ve been reading the "Rain" series of contemporary fiction novels, and Rain (an assassin) has a detector he keeps in his pocket that "detects" some kind of wave length (side-band? or similar I think it was called) that video camera’s produce. The detector also detects audio surveillance. The author never differentiates between wireless and hard-wired devices, this little thing picks up everything within about 10 meters or so if I recall correctly.

I’m just wondering if that is actually possible or if it is literary license. If it is possible, how?

I’d like to set up video surveilance and use an old pc as a server for the equipment. If possible I’d also like to have the information uploaded somewhere online at certain intervals (since if the surveilance equipment is found and stolen it’s of no use)

Also looking for other nice security measures such as motion lights, dog, etc…

Suggestions for equipment and lighting and anything else not mentioned is appreciated.

The property will be surrounded by bamboo, an electric fence with a charger used for cattle since I’m on a farm.

I plan on having all the doors on the house open outwards so it’s harder to kick them in.

Doors will have deadbolt locks.

Anyone have experience with setting up their own home security?

I love security :]
First, the outwards opening door doesn’t have to have hinge pins that can be knocked out. They make doors/frames specifially for this and the purpose is it makes it harder to kick the door in. As far as live feed goes, I don’t need live feed. I just want all the Video/Audio to be uploaded to an online server so that the files are still there for me to view if the surveilance in my house is stolen.

rain water came leaking out of the rectangular edges of the electrical outlet, and the edges of our red fire alarm in our apartment during a storm. i could hear rain dripping inside the walls. are we in danger or electrical problems?

i have wireless on my laptop and it wont let me connect to anybody that has there security on

The smoke alarm was in a public school, so I’m assuming it was a pretty good smoke alarm. Could dust cause it to go off?

should you just show up because they requested a meeting or should you make them give you more detail or have a lawyer go with you on initial meeting. is is appropriate for them to tell your spouse that their husband cant or doesnt need to come because it involves them only

If I get an ADT or similar alarm system installed and meet the 36-month monitoring contract requirement, will I be able to use the alarm system they installed with another monitoring provider? I’ve heard that the system is locked and you can’t use it with other services, but I’m wondering if this is the case even after the 36 months? Thanks for your advice!

I have a home network already set up. 3 computers are using xp pro and one is using vista home premium. I want to secure the wireless connection.

A Home security party for neighbors & friends to demo state of the art security systems to protect their homes & families and their business’s as well, I bring cctv equipment security demo units explain the benefits of a security system and i supply the refreshments and the host gets a prize

I’m not looking for "In the kitchen" or "In the bedrooms." Where in the room itself is the best place to install them? In the center of the ceiling? Close to a doorway? High up on the wall? Does it depend on which room you’re talking about? Or does it not matter where they go? Thanks in advance!
Thanks so far…it looks like we’ll be moving some of ours!

I have a friend who works at a small bar. And it has been said that not only is the bar under video surveillance but the owner is going to install several cameras with audio also. Is this legal? I feel as if it is ease dropping on peoples private conversations. Is there anything that can be done about this? I totally agree with the video but audio I think is a invasion of privacy.

I am trying to adust a couple settings on my alarm and I don’t know this code…

hey everyone-
i just got wireless and i’m totally lost about security. i’m worried that someone will be able to use my internet that i don’t want to use, but i’ve heard good things about WPA security. I also heard about hiding my SSID, but my router doesn’t allow this or it crashes or something and i have to reinstall the software. Anyway, what i’m asking is this: Is WPA2 security enough for my network to stop unwanted intruders?

thanks in advance
oh yea one more thing-

whenever i try to connect to the network, it does not ask for a password…altho it did ask the first time i tried to connect. Is this ok?
sorry one more thing lol-

what is the difference between the security key and the password?

I run a business that installs security equipment in homes. I’d like a service that will send out a thank you card to the customer and ask for referral business - I don’t want just email, which I already have. Any good recommendations?
