Is it legal in the state of ohio to have audio and video surveillance in a public business?
I have a friend who works at a small bar. And it has been said that not only is the bar under video surveillance but the owner is going to install several cameras with audio also. Is this legal? I feel as if it is ease dropping on peoples private conversations. Is there anything that can be done about this? I totally agree with the video but audio I think is a invasion of privacy.

there is no presumption of privacy in a public place.
There would be so many people in the bar that the conversations would mostly be in-audible, also i doubt the bar owner would be interested in listening to peoples conversations, or have the time to do it. There is no law against it.
I live in Ohio and it is actually perfectly legal to call someone and record them as long as one person knows about it. Also if you are out in public it is fair game, people can record (audio & video) whoever and whatever if you are out in public. That is how the paparazzi is able to do it to celebrities.
I’m in Ohio too and I can’t agree with ALL of these cameras being put up all the time. YES it is legal to set up a camera especially if They are the owner. The only reason that They need ANY cameras is for evidence or drug deals etc. I can agree that if You are doing something wrong then You get caught but I also believe that places like red lights that take pictures and places where the Police etc. should be the ones who need to catch people.
It is a good idea especially at a bar. In case of fights, car break ins, Burglary etc.
It is legal and the only thing you can do about it is not go to that place anymore. Furthermore, it’s really not a public business. It’s actually a private business that happens to be open to the public.
I think it’s legal specially it is needed now to caught wrong doings that most happen in the bar so i guess it’s a good idea to put surveillance knowing that we may not predict what will happen…http://www.video-surveillance-guide.com
