what i want is to protect my wireless network so people like my neighbors cant view my computer files from their computers, or connect to my internet if they didnt have any.

I may be leaving my house to another state for a few months unattended. Before I bought my house it was broken into and the pipes were stolen and such. I am also leaving my car so many not even know I am gone and there area isnt the greatest. I have some valuables in the house. So what do you think about the situation and what I should do?

I am looking into getting my own security system but if it went off I wouldn’t be able to turn it off and such or monitor it from another state I do not think. I could probably get a friend in the city of the house to deal with it but is there someway that I could find out because I dont really want to notify my neighbors since I dont know if I can trust them?

So I think maybe getting a security company would be the best idea. I think a motion detecter in the basement and living room should suffice as it is a 3 story house with a garage door to the basement. Or just some alarms on 3-4 doors. I don’t think that is all that much?

What company is the best place to go to get this? Will they monitor it and turn it off and back of if it goes off and I am not around to deal with it? Are there smaller companies that are a lot cheaper then some of the big ones that are just as good? How much a month and for installation and I figure you dont get to own the equipment? Do they make you sign long term contracts or get to your house speedily or depends on your area? Do they have to use a telephone line because I don’t use a landline and once I leave I will be turning off my cable internet?

Me any problems? My neighbors are mostly old people, not the criminal type.

I have noticed one time that a neighbors car went off once and as soon as they tried to reboot the alarm from going off again, they accidently shut it off completely having the car stolen for days. Thankfully the alarm was hooked up properly but really can this deter theifs from looking at it as an opportunity?

Ok so we are moving next month into a house that we will be renting. Unfortunately, ADT & Brinks dont let renters use their services…which is ok because we dont plan to rent the house forever, so their products would probably be a waste of money anyway.

Ive been online FOREVER it feels like, looking for a home security system we can install ourselves. Ive heard wireless is the easiest way to go? We just dont want to have to pay a professional to come out and do it. I have NO idea how to find what Im looking for or what products actually do what we want them to do. So Im hoping that maybe somebody can steer me in the right direction if I describe what I hope to find…..

Like I said, wireless would be great. I want something not too difficult to use….we would like to be able to monitor all the windows and doors in the house (there isnt very many). And MOST OF ALL, I want something LOUD. Id want the siren/alarm to be able to be heard from the next door neighbors houses….I figure, if the alarm isnt very loud, what good does it do? Im hoping that if (God forbid) anyone ever tried to break in, the alarm would scare them away if they know everyone can hear it and cops may very well be on their way….

I have a 4yr old son and I want to do anything I can to assure a sense of safety in our house.

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Does anybody know of a system that I should purchase?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I’m thinking about installing some cameras out side my house b/c lately some of my neighbors cars got broken into. so if i do this will my homeowners insurance go down?

What do I need for a basic home security system.

I don’t want anything elaborate as I live in a "safe" area.

I want something like a remote operated button that my elderly mom can push in an event someone breaks in. A loud alarm that will go off both inside and outside to "scare" any robbers and alert her neighbors.

I have one elderly mother and a mentally retarded brother who lives with me.

I kind of worry about them when I work during the day, although I live in a safe rural community and have great neighbors.

Are those home video and audio surveillance monitors worth getting?
When I'm home I have a shotgun just in case something happens.

I would guess that cars of similar type with car alarms are stolen no more than 5 percent less than cars without alarms. I suppose each of us has to weigh whether the reduced risk is worth the hassle to ourselves and neighbors when, as too often happens, the thing goes off inadvertently. A careful answer should address the fact that expensive cars are both worth more to steal and worth putting up with more hassle.

Neighbors are talking about installing personal security cameras at their single family residences. Is that practical? The average video tape is no more than 6 hours.

Is there a way to continuously save all footage digitally on a 100GB hard drive for long vacations? But that also means computers must be left on the entire time so the electricity bill must run the computer, camera, and any other peripheral continuously on long vacations. If the power goes out briefly, then it's

This question assumes the camera is not aimed at other neighbor's homes so no privacy issues are violated.
