I just moved into a new house in Atlanta, GA and want to get a security system installed in my house. I don’t want to get a land line if I can help it, so I’d like to get one that is capable of wireless monitoring. I’d also like to pay less than the per month that so many companies advertise, but I don’t want to pay a ton to have it installed, either. And researching this is driving me crazy because no one will just give me a straight answer on what their systems cost to install and monitor! They all want to send out a "representative" (aka, salesperson) to "evaluate my home security needs" (aka, pressure me to sign a contract and spend lots of money). I know what I need, I just want to find out who can provide it and for how much! I cannot take time off work to wait for some stranger to come walk through my house and tell me what I need. Does anyone know of a security company serving Atlanta that offers good service at reasonable prices without playing games?
I moved into a new home that has an existing security system. It was wired by ADT, but since it’s already installed I was wondering if I have to use them to monitor my security system or can I go with someone else without having to replace my equipment?
is it possible for a wireless home security system to cause interference with other remote controls?
recently had a security system put on my home which uses wireless sensors. in less than a week, my remote controls for my digital cable box and tv are not working as they should. I have to be about a foot or so away from the cable box for it to work and when it does it only works for a few seconds. Replaced cable box remote with a new one and still the same thing. any help would be greatly appreciated on what to do or who to call.
I purchased some X10 equipment (home security, from X10.com) while in the States, to use here in Austria, Europe.
Most of the equipment is wireless, but the "Console for DW7000 Security System" is 120v, 60 Hz, 6 watts.
1) Will X10 equipment designed for 120v, 60Hz environment work in a 230 v, 50 Hz environment, with a transformer?
2) I have a Step Down Coverter (model LLD50U, mfr?) that says: "Output: 110/120V AC 60Hz for Electric Products up to 50 Watts, to be used with all fax machines Panasonic, Toshiba, Canon, Sharp." Is that an appropriate transformer for my needs?
Thank you!
I may be leaving my house to another state for a few months unattended. Before I bought my house it was broken into and the pipes were stolen and such. I am also leaving my car so many not even know I am gone and there area isnt the greatest. I have some valuables in the house. So what do you think about the situation and what I should do?
I am looking into getting my own security system but if it went off I wouldn’t be able to turn it off and such or monitor it from another state I do not think. I could probably get a friend in the city of the house to deal with it but is there someway that I could find out because I dont really want to notify my neighbors since I dont know if I can trust them?
So I think maybe getting a security company would be the best idea. I think a motion detecter in the basement and living room should suffice as it is a 3 story house with a garage door to the basement. Or just some alarms on 3-4 doors. I don’t think that is all that much?
What company is the best place to go to get this? Will they monitor it and turn it off and back of if it goes off and I am not around to deal with it? Are there smaller companies that are a lot cheaper then some of the big ones that are just as good? How much a month and for installation and I figure you dont get to own the equipment? Do they make you sign long term contracts or get to your house speedily or depends on your area? Do they have to use a telephone line because I don’t use a landline and once I leave I will be turning off my cable internet?

First and foremost, I want a security system that I can install myself that I don’t have to pay someone to monitor. I want the system to have all of the following features:
Integrated Smoke Alarm
Integrated CO Detector
Glass Break Sensors
Multiple Cameras both inside and out that are accessible via the web
DVR for the cameras with access via TV(s)
Window / Door alarms
A loud siren
Control Panel
Key Fobs
Ability to either email photos or on security breach
Is this too much to ask from a do it yourself system? I am not worried about the cost, but want flexibility in the system that I choose.
Hi!
I am a small female student who lives alone. I am terrified to go to sleep at night. I decided to contact ADT and have them come look at my home to set up a security system. They quoted me ,245 install plus /month. I can’t afford this! I am researching security systems and see you can purchase them much cheaper, however I don’t know what to look for.
This is what I need:
20 wireless door/window sensors
1 window protector (non sliding/opening)
3 motion sensors
1 control panel
1 remote key
The house I live in has a lot of windows, I’m looking to protect all of the windows during the day, however activate the motion sensors at night as well- as the window protectors only work if the door is being slid open!
I would really appreciate all advice. I can afford the monthly fee however the start up cost is not affordable for me.
Thank You so much for reading!
I am also wanting it to connect to a home security carrier (ie ADT) for police monitoring. We have had break ins in my neighborhood and I want to be sure if something should happen it goes to the police!
I just bought a security system at a police auction, but it didn’t have cables for the cameras. What kind of cables do I need and where do I find them?
I need to install a security system for my house but not sure what or where to buy. I’m thinking about this company
http://discountlowvoltage.com/ccprbyev.html
but still not sure.
The system can't have expensive monthly monitoring, and monitoring has to be OPTIONAL, (ie. not required to operate the system). Also, the price of the system can't be subsidized by a system monitoring contract.
It would help is such a security system is available at retailers, but its not necessary. Also, I'm NOT interested in systems that only offer surveillance.
Most stores have some sort of security system that involves video surveillance. But is it illegal for the cameras to also be recording audio - and the employees monitoring those cameras thus listening to private conversations? Or are customers foregoing such rights to privacy once they enter the store?
I travel a lot and work away from home a great deal. I would like to set up a security system that I can monitor from the internet. I will need 4 cameras and one will have to have be able to focus on objects 150' away. The other three cameras will have to be able to focus from 0 to 50'. Any information on the set up, cost and availability of the equipment would be appreciated.

We are thinking about getting one for our house. I called ADT and they charge 0 for the installation alone! Protection One, on the other hand, only charges about 0. What's the difference? Is the security system worth the money? Is it a hassle? Etc?
