Our smoke alarms all went off in unison tonight for no apparent reason.. I didnt know they could do that for a false alarm? Anyhow, I am worried that as there wasnt a fire, it was due to carbon monoxide, as one of our alarms is a carbon monoxide detector.
How can I check that monoxide isnt an issue for us? What other things can make a fire alarm go off for no reason?

are smoke alarms a legal requirement if you rent out property

I live in my own home. I have 7 smoke alarms; 5 upstairs and 2 downstairs. Yesterday, they all went off at the same time … no smoke; no fire. I shut them off at the breaker box. The smoke alarms are wired into the house, but each has one 9 volt battery in it. I replaced all the batteries, but that did not solve the problem. Any suggestions?
I have tried pushing the test button on each and that did not work.
All were unplugged when installing the new batteries.

We are in a rental home which had central heat and air installed this past summer. This is the first time we have turned on the heat and the smoke alarms keep going off. Is this something to worry about or is this normal? (I know it sounds like a really stupid question, but I grew up in the Tropics, so I don’t know how the heating works!)

About once ever few days, every one of our smoke alarms goes off. Its not just chirping like when the batteries are no good, its full on beeping. There is absolutely no smoke, and we changed all the batteries. What causes this?

i am not sure if smoke alarms and fire dept.s work hand in hand..lol

can they set off smoke alarms or fire alarms?

What is the point of smoke alarms that have buttons? I mean they get but on the roof part thingy and you cant reach them to turn them off :@
?
yes it is to shut it off ! i read the instruction thingy
i dont mean turn it off all together i mean turn the buzz off!! lol its so annoying

these two smoke alarms are hard wired in the ceiling but they have been chirping every now and then for a couple days. Can anyone help?
thank you to all that mentioned the battery back-up.. it was hidden but I found it!

my home is 5 yrs old with wired in smoke alarms that have battery back up. They go off for about 2-3 beeps and then quit, usually in the middle of the night.

I have to do a science project, and one of the questions that I have to answer is about worries that people have about smoke alarms. I can’t really think of any reasons why people would be worried about them though :S

Would appreciate any answers … Thanks :)

I have many smoke alarms around my house and they beep very often and its very very annoying. I have tried changing the battery but that didn’t work.

The home is new construction built in 2006. The smoke alarms are electric with a battery backup. I expect the bulbs caused some sort of power changes that caused the alarms to beep. The things didn't beep before the bulbs, continued to beep after I replaced all the batteries in the alarms, continued after I reset the alarms, and stopped beeping after I replaced the compact florescents with incandescent bulbs. Very odd.

I am doing my GCSE’s and i have to find out how many people have smoke alarms in there homes and how many don’t. Any answers would be very welcome as i need as much info as possible.
So… How many of use have got smoke alarms?

incense and smoke alarms. can i light incense and have a smoke
alarm in the same room. i know it cant be right under the alarm but can it be across the room. will it work with a fan on. can i do it in a room next to a room with a smoke alarm? anyone?

I have five smoke alarms in my house connected to my power and they also each have 8 volt battery backup. Randomly all my smoke alarms will go off for about 5 seconds. Sometimes it happens several times a day and some times it will take a couple of weeks before it does it again.

I did clean as much dust as I could from the housing and I change the batteries about once a year. The smoke alarms do go off when we accidently burn something in the oven, which means they work.

Any Ideas on why they go off when there is no smoke? It is getting quite annoying, especially when they go off like 5 times a day.

Thanks in advance.
