Where is the best place to install smoke alarms in the rooms of your home?
I’m not looking for "In the kitchen" or "In the bedrooms." Where in the room itself is the best place to install them? In the center of the ceiling? Close to a doorway? High up on the wall? Does it depend on which room you’re talking about? Or does it not matter where they go? Thanks in advance!
Thanks so far…it looks like we’ll be moving some of ours!

Ceilings, probably middle of the room. Smoke rises I believe.
one on each floor and bedrooms
They should be up high on the wall or on the ceiling near the door of all the bedrooms where someone sleeps. I usually put them over the doors on the wall.
Did someone say center of the room, take a look at the center of the room what do you see. Ya, a light switch, duhh.
Minimum requirements have smoke detectors within the hallway directly outside of bedrooms and another common place is at the bottom or top of a staircase.
best place is in hallway outside the room on the ceiling, that is the fire safety recommendation, also at the top of stairwells, and near heating units, all smoke detectors should be placed over head when possible.(Heat/smoke rise) and be sure to change batteries once a year .
align it with the doorway it can go center at that point if you prefer
I have rental property and city code requires that I have one within 6′ inside every bedroom as well as 6′ outside the bedroom. To be mounted on the ceiling. There must also be one in the kitchen (a pain because cooking can set them off. If there is a basement there must be one down there, same goes for an attic
